The great saucer dome of the Lecture Room with its horizontally ribbed pendentives, recalling Soane’s halls in the Bank of England, rises to an oculus of glass engraved with lotus leaves, against which the central plaster lotus flower is dramatically silhouetted.  This recreates something of the lush and exotic splendour of Nash’s interiors at Brighton Pavilion.
