View of Roof Top Pediment
The building is built in self supporting, load bearing Indiana limestone on the street side, with a brick and stone façade at the rear. Both the back and front of the building include elaborate hand carved classical detail in the stonework and cast detail in the ironwork of the balconies.
The penthouse apartment on the roof is arranged with outdoor terraces at a number of levels. The main terrace at the front incorporates a full Doric portico with an arch that breaks into the pediment between the two central columns.
The garden apartment is on three levels. The upper levels include balconies which overlook the garden and lead to the garden below by way of a classical ironwork staircase.
The grandest of the apartments on the ‘piano nobile’ has rooms with a ceiling height of 18 feet providing rooms of ideal proportions and size.
According to the New York Landmarks Commission, this is the first classical building to be built in the city since the 1960s.
