SUPPLEMENTARY PLANNING GUIDELINES FOR WINDFALL DEVELOPMENT SITES IN THE SOLIHULL AREA FOR SOLIHULL METROPOLITAN COUNCIL

Typical pages from the Supplementary Planning Guidance

John Simpson and Partners were commissioned by Solihull Metropolitan Council to prepare design guidelines that would allow PPG3 densities to be introduced into low density areas within the borough whilst retaining the character of Solihull.  A study was undertaken of the significant areas within the borough in order to set out what these distinctive characteristics were.  A methodology was devised that sets the parameters for each individual development according to its location within the borough.  These then function as standards against which the new proposals, submitted for consent, can be appraised.  A series of case studies were put together that also formed part of the guidance, designed as worked examples to support and explain the methodology.
