Sheringham Pavilion

Sheringham, UK

The Grade II listed walled garden in Sheringham Park was built between 1815-1816 as the kitchen garden for Sheringham Hall by renowned designer Humphry Repton and his architect son John Adey Repton. The new Sheringham Pavilion replaces the tennis pavilion that once formed the centrepiece of the design for the old walled kitchen garden by Arabella Lennox-Boyd carried out in 2003. A few years after its construction, the tennis pavilion was damaged by severe winds and was demolished. Sitting atop the old plinth, the new pavilion is built of cast iron rather than timber to ensure its longevity. The structure is painted green to resemble patinated bronze and has a gilded inscription running along the inside of the entablature. Not only does the new structure complement the existing garden design, but it also commemorates the bicentenary of the designs for Sheringham Hall and its gardens by Repton and the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
